Island Peak also known as Imjatse peak (6091m) lies in the Imjatse valley in Everest Region.  It is the 68th highest peak here in Nepal.  This island peak trek is little different and technically challenging trek than the Everest base camp trek or Gokyo lake trek in the Everest region.  This is an adventurous trek where you have to climb the Island peak.  With the help of experienced guide and with some technical knowledge, you can complete this trek.It is the best trek for those trekkers who are looking for some extra activities and some extra adventure.  This Island Peak can be one of the practicing peaks for those who are looking forward to summit Mt. Everest itself or other 8000 m peaks.  This Island peak is not an easy trek, but with proper acclimatization, proper gears, and experienced guides, one can summit this island peak.  This is about 16 to 18 days trek.  The itineraries are made in such way that one can trek through different villages with proper acclimatization.  Itinerary also includes pre climbing training at the Island Peak base camp, where you will be properly guided on how to handle the climbing gears and equipment like ice axe, harness, crampons and climbing boots, ascender etc., and using ropes to ascend and descend during climbing.  This training will help you to climb up the peak without any difficulty.  For those, who has prior experience in climbing doesn’t need the training, but to enhance up your confidence on climbing it is recommended to do training.  Up to the 5570 m, it is usually the rocky surface.  It doesn’t require any ropes or crampons.  After that altitude, we will use ropes and crampons to walk on the slippery snow depending upon the season and weather.  We will use ropes and ladders to cross the crevasses.

Usually, the final day of summit starts very early in the morning or should say in the midnight as early as 12 or 1 am.  It will be a long day trek for almost 10 to 12 hours where we will summit the Island Peak and then descend to the basecamp in one single day.  It will not be possible to summit in the afternoon because of strong wind can be the barrier in the highlands.  So it is better to reach summit before the afternoon.  From the top of the peak, you will get an astonishing 360o view of  mountains like Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Ama Dablam, Mt. Mera Peak, and other surrounding peak.  Unfortunately, one cannot see Everest from the top of the Island peak, as it is tuck behind Mt. Lhotse.Island peak trek starts from Lukla to Namche Bazar to Tengboche to Chukkung to Island Peak base camp and the Island Peak itself with few days of acclimatization en route.  Different mani walls, paintings, different colored prayer flags, villages, flora and faunas, snow capped mountains, roaring rivers, and waterfalls can be seen during this trek.
