Highlights

Mardi Himal Trek is one of the easy and short treks around the Annapurna Region.  This moderate-level trek will take you to an altitude of 4500 m at the Mardi Himal base camp.  You will gain an altitude from 1400 m to 4500 m in just 3 to 4 days.  Until a few years back, this trek used to be a tented trek, as this trekking route was unknown to most of the trekkers.  In recent years, this new trail has been opened for trekkers, and this has been one of the best destinations for trekking in the Annapurna region.  This trek is one of the shortest treks here in this Annapurna region. As this new route has been recently opened, there are very few teahouses and lodges.  During the peak season, this trekking route is the busiest route among other routes.  Being close to the Pokhara Valley, you will get a very close view of Mt. Fishtail during this trek.  From March to May and September to December, this route will get a huge number of trekkers.  During these seasons, the weather will be clear to get a great view of the mountains and valleys.  While trekking, you will see mostly Gurung community people.  As most of the people living in this region is Buddhist, you will see prayer flags, wheels, mani walls, monasteries, and other things related to Buddhism.

You will be walking for about 6 hours a day on average. The Mardi Himal Trek trail passes through a beautiful dense forest of different vegetation and wildlife.  The trail is not so difficult, but since you will gain a high altitude in a very short day, it is recommended to do proper acclimatization to avoid any altitude sickness.  We will drive up to Kande in Pokhara Trekking starts from Kande.  From Kande, the trail passes through villages and forests to reach Deurali.  The trail further continues to take you to Forest Camp.  There are a few guesthouses and teahouses to take a rest for overnight.  As you will trek further from Forest Camp, you will reach Low Camp and then to High Camp.  From High Camp, you will further trek to reach Mardi Himal Base Camp from where you will get a magnificent view of the majestic Mt. Fishtail and other mountains of the Annapurna range.

This short but beautiful Mardi Himal trek will give you the ultimate experience of trekking.  It is an easy trek, so everybody in good physical condition can easily complete this trek.  Due to the picturesque view of the mountains, more trekkers are attracted now to this trekking route.  As this is a less crowded trek, this trek is suitable for those who want to avoid huge traffic and enjoy the beauty of nature.  This trek can be an alternate trek route here in the Annapurna region.

There are natural windows in the woods that look out on to thrilling panoramas towards Hiunchuli and the knife-sharp traverse towards Annapurna South. Far below, to left, can see the Modi Khola valley leading up into the Annapurna sanctuary. Though still surrounded by forest, have spectacular northerly views of the ever-closer Fishtail.

Conditions being favourable, trip can reach up to 5000m and only the crest of Mardi Himal itself separates from the south face of Machhapuchare. The great ice fields and blue glaciers of the Sanctuary Wall lie below. Annapurna I, highest of all is beyond, and around, in an arc from horizon to horizon, from Dhaulagiri to the Ganesh Himal, are a dozen or more glistening snow- bound giants. Standing on a spot that has been constant aim for days now. A place, a time, a view that is almost impossible to equal –and earned it. Whatever achievement, by 1:00pm and back trip to camp.

  • Day 07: High Camp -Sedding 6hrs 1865m then drive to Pokhara

After a relaxed breakfast, tired bodies make an unhurried descent through the shade of the forest, and out onto terraced fields, down 1600m in all. This is a different route down-down to the upper Mardi Khola, the torrent that has been the ice and snow of the Mardi Himal. Although remote and still away from the much-used ‘Teahouse’ trekking routes, our expedition now takes on the moods of the warm valley and the friendly villages. Here, we make our way along the banks of the Mardi Khola from the hillside village or siding, down through the lovely fields, past the simple farms, and over the interesting bridges. There is no doubting this is indeed the idyllic Nepali countryside. then drive to Pokhara.
